Here and Now
Doing good
As I type, it is election day. America seems to have been thrown into chaos with pandemics, protests, and politics. It has been quite an interesting year, that is for sure. Many have lost jobs, experienced illness, and we are all tired of masks. There seems to be a wide amount of unrest and uncertainty, and I think it’s safe to say many are exhausted. Exhausted from the chaos, the uproar, the anger, the fear, the unknowns. I have heard people say they are tired of trying to have conversations because they are met with such opposition. When was it we ceased to be able to hold a respectful conversation with one another? Yet, there are those who have continued on, doing good, encouraging, helping, and reaching out.
Do not become weary
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a
harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)
In many ways, I am ready to celebrate Christmas, ring in the New Year, and close the chapter that is 2020. This is the year that has tested and pruned like no other. But, now is not the time to throw in the towel. More than any other year, I have seen God clearly at work. I have heard him more clearly, and found more peace than ever before. There have been days this year I have laughed until my sides ached, and days I wished to slow down. New doors have opened, and new paths have been discovered. I have found more purpose and more pleasure in that purpose than in previous years. God has been so kind to me, to my family, in the midst of a world that seems unhinged.
Gift of gratitude
For all the changes this year has brought, I will be forever grateful for the deepening of my faith,
and of friendships. I will rejoice in what was removed from our lives, and what was provided. I
have found God to be better than I have claimed Him to be. For the doors that have closed, I
rejoice. And, I rejoice for the doors that have opened. I rejoice in seeing God at work in mighty
ways, and I rejoice in knowing the peace that surpasses all understanding (Phillipians 4:7).
Going further
In spite of what this year has brought, what has caused you to rejoice? If you were to be still, and
reflect on the last few months, what has God revealed to you about yourself, who He is, how to
view your circumstances, or where you place your trust? How can you end this year with a heart
full of praise?
Prayer
Father, thank you for sustaining us. Thank you for being our provider and protector. Our country
needs your healing hand, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Make your name
great in this generation, and draw us closer. May our words and deeds honor you. Be near Father, be very near. Amen
